The loop R definitely looks good. Some surface corrosion, but a nice find!

The loop look good but not really. Me on the loop I see like a hit. Never see with this kind of mark.
Question?: Why peoples look for fake coins as Henning?

From what I'm seeing in comparison to my 46 henning nickel the loop is correct..the weight does hit the correct profile from the specs I've seen..but the rim is to solid. With hennings you tend to see a very weak rim on the reverse of the coin.. in reference to my looped-R 46 again the s in cents more visible and the middle letters are weaker but this isn't a case in all of them..also have never seen a henning with this type of corrosion before looks like it's been in water for awhile. The story does say that henning tossed thousands of these into a river while trying to evade the police and not get caught. Pretty cool part of the story I think.there is a good images of a scuba driver searching an area for them in the river online

I managed to crop the coin image provided and my coin side by side to do a comparison of the looped-R

Thanks for the comparison, It sure looks like a match to me. Quote: Question?: Why peoples look for fake coins as Henning? because it is history, and a cool story behind these nickels, AND we are allowed to have one - unlike you up there in Canada

Flkas you mentioned that the O in of on the reverse has a flat spot on the bottom. I think over time hennings dies got worn. I actually have several nickels that the bottom of the O is flat as well as the bottom has a little cut mark similar to the loop in the R. It's not as large as the loop in the R but it does have very similar characteristics. Here is an image sorry not the best photo but you can clearly see what I'm talking about hopefully. Just Incase someone asks this is my 1939 looped-R with the die crack above the Monticello building

That is exactly what I am talking about. I have quite a mix of levels. In the more distinct examples, it is a 'bar' that goes across the near bottom of the O. I have some where you can see the gap between the bar and inside edge of the O. Another cool variety on the looped coins is what I call the theta variant. There is a line across the center of the 1st O in Monticello so that it looks like the Greek theta. In one of the 1953 photos you've posted, you can see it. I have it on a couple 44s and 39s. It sure would be nice if the non-loops has as many distinct variants.

Looks good from what little I've learned about them. (I love learning more.)
Just for reference, can anyone give the years in which Hennings have been found? (Nickelcollector85 got me to wondering with their image of their 1939.)

Thanks Dearborn. Much appreciated.
I've seen multiple threads here about the Hennings, but thought a nice review of the known years would be helpful to folks.

While these are counterfeit, they seem to have value to collectors.
