Put aside the dark spots (lack of better term or correct term?) and the possible cleaning on this coin (hence Details) I'm thinking somewhere in AU category?

I'll say AU-58 sharpness but agree probably cleaned.

I believe that this coin has been living safely tucked away in perhaps an old, blue Whitman folder and has NOT been cleaned. I think you're quite correct with your AU thoughts. I'll withhold my guess until others chime in. This 1911 is very, very nice with some slight remaining luster, details are excellent!

Very little wear, could be a 58 but I'll go with AU-55 because of the lack of eye appeal.

I'm thinking it was cleaned at some point well into the past. All the wheat cents I have in old/vintage Whitman folders--undisturbed for many, many, many years--show some discoloration/toning (not dramatic...). With all that, I could go with AU53. Certainly is a nice coin. Nice photos too.

The reason I don't think that it's been cleaned is because I've seen coins, especially cents, that have been kept in the old Whitman folders and then tucked away for years. However, IF it's been cleaned, it's been a long while.

if the color is correct in hand it may have had an old cleaning before being set in the album. the pinkish undertones in the obv left field and faded out discoloration on the jacket all point to that.

technically AU58 but without luster and the discoloration I think it lowers it AU55. probably grades straight

Middle dies state obverse die coupled with an early die state reverse die.

This is one of those coins that would grade AU62 or MS58. :)

I think the white balance is off, assuming the background is white. It's making the color look a little funny.
