Probably a damaged 1953 that lost mass due to damage. Educated guess.

Could this be #41 of the non-steel cents minted in 1943? Or just some other year so badly damaged that the date is not discernible?

Occam's Razor mean:

In simpler language, Occam's razor states that the simplest explanation is preferable to one that is more complex. Simple theories are easier to verify. Simple solutions are easier to execute.
