I have this us 1996 Lincoln Memorial penny with a blurry outline of Lincolns outline over the 1996 date. Its difficult to read the date because of it. If looked at closely, some details such has Lincoln's ear can be seen in the outline of Lincoln that covers the date. Not clear enough to tell thats what it is unless you know thats what you are looking at. Took me a little bit to figure it out personally. Can anyone explain what type of error this is and if it's a rare find/possibly has any value or if its common/not of any extra value then face value. Thanks in advance for your guys help!

Incuse. What's the significant of the 2. Like what type of error would you think it was if it had been raised rather than incuse? also does anyone know if this would be considered rare/or have any real value? Thanks in advance!!

If it had been raised, then it would probably been glue or some like substance on the surface. Being incuse, it is a Struck Through, in this case probably grease. Not rare and does not have too much value.

to the CCF Looks like struck through something. To my eye it's simply a random shape. If you are 'seeing' pieces of Lincoln in that blob then click the hyperlink for Pareidolia.

I could be mistaken and the picture might not do it justice but the hairline lines up and the outline over the body of Lincoln is the same shape as Lincoln's outline of pennies so from what I can see, it appears to be the outline of him but like I said, I could absolutely be mistaken. There are many people much more knowledgeable than I am on these matters.

The consistency of the discrepancy is the same as Lincoln's hair. Not sure if can see from my picture though

I can see the outline and Lincolns ear too if you look real close it's quite obvious, I'm not sure of the value of this error & but it's very I terestimg. Welcome to ccf Alun

Thanks User1975, probably because not best picture but at first I figured maybe a grease strike through or something but at least in person, it has clear characteristics that lead me to believe it is somehow the Lincoln design. The shape/outline, the hair in particular and the ear are 2 specific designs I was able to make out which lead me to that conclusion. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong haha but I'm fairly certain somehow Lincoln's design somehow was struck over the date on this penny. If anyone else has any ideas/input, id love to hear it please! Thanks again everyone!
