... most valued errors and varieties? I mean, I've seen lots of different errors and varieties posted here but the final opinions are mostly "not valuable" or "cool but just a spender", etc... Pouring over thousands of coins for a minimal DDO or DDR or a Die Chip is exciting but it seems more of an effort in futility if I don't know what is desirable and valuable. Thanks for reading! |

I agree and thank you. It's hard to decide which site has the more accurate information regarding desirable and valuable. Sone list coins that I actually own for thousands but after posting here it's just a common coin. I believe this site over YouTube or TikTok nonsense but other sites have different opinions also. So it's rather confusing. And I really don't want look over anything worth desire to collections or the coin community in a whole. I understand that some sites don't offee value. Some do.

I've been on this forum for a little over 4 years now. During that time.... I had to read, research & educate myself, in regards to whats desirable. That being said, desirability is subjective, if you ask 10 different people on the forum, you'll get 10 different opinions.

The web sites catalog known varieties and so they will have both potentially valuable and not so valuable listings.That is why I mentioned to you in another thread to perhaps start with the listings of the book called Strike It Rich with Pocket Change because they did a nice job of covering all the main ones that are worthwhile to search for while eliminating much of the rest. From that book you can easily compile lists of what to focus on first. https://www.amazon.com/Strike-Rich-.../0593328604/ Just keep in mind that high value can mean rare and so its unlikely to find by the average person. Perhaps in a lifetime one might be lucky to find a 1969-s or 1955 doubled die for example but you will get frustrated if your only looking for the very top value examples only so best to just learn and enjoy the experience of searching over time. When time is short perhaps you just start to lessen the lists to those valued over say $20 so your not looking for every single coin variety or error. |

@datadragon, there is a Kindle Version! Just need the App downloaded to my phone and can read on my phone. Perfect!! Thank again.

It says there is a Amazon kindle version separate from the printed book version that I use. There are programs out there that can further convert kindle to other formats but its sold as kindle and print it appears. The idea here is in agreement to have the main ones to search on hand from that info without all the other stuff which can still be found on the websites as a supplement should you need it. There are also kindle versions of the CherryPickers Guide vol 1 and 2 but the print is crazy expensive right now of the latest version because they havent reprinted version 6 yet. Many of the good ones are already in the strike it rich book but those might be good additions once you are regularly searching to go even deeper. Edited by datadragon

Or study the listed examples on the sites to see what a DDO / DDR/RPMs look like. That way you train your eyes to see what to look for on these varieties. The more you train your eyes, the more you will find. (And if it is an unlisted die, then you will notice that was well. A list shows you, but training your eyes, you will find more them easier. |

Good advice @coop, I have spoken to many who are new and currently the best advice I've given that seems to work is to have people get a hold of that specific book (or alternatively can use the online sites but they are not as easy for a newbie which is why I use the book first) and to 'match up' to known coins to look for which is much easier for someone new to this, rather than attempt as you suggest to identify what in general is a DDO / DDR and just look at all coins etc. That part is quite confusing to newbies due to the fact that Machine Doubling types turns up alot more often and is not the same or have the same value as a coin that is doubled from the die itself. What you suggest I think should be a second level after someone starts looking and is able to match up to known listings, then can use the sites (to know there are more out there even though many are not valuable) and to try to ID new ones like you may be able to after that which is more difficult. |
