Hey all.
When I was young I collected coins, but not to the extent I am at now. Years ago I saved a few coins now and then I considered different, and luckily kept them stashed away and forgotten about only to be found lately. It was like opening a time machine or treasure chest. Coins like 1940's
Mercury dimes, 1940's
Jefferson nickels, a handful of Morgan and Peace silver dollars, several handfuls of Kennedy half-dollars. the odd Farthings, some British pennies from the 1700's, and a pile of $1, $5 and $10 silver certificates! This is just some of the things I'm discovering that's been stashed around the house, forgotten for years.
One thing I think is important in starting collecting is a good local coin shop. I'm lucky to have a great small shop in my town. The owner has almost everything you would want and his prices are so reasonable at times I don't think he's charging enough. He's patient, friendly, knowledgeable and if it wasn't for having a shop like that so close I probably wouldn't be as enthusiastic about collecting as I am now. I've purchased quite a bit from him and will continue to do so.
Another important addition is having access to a forum like this. Having questions answered quickly and especially having traders from everywhere make this hobby real easy.
Just wanted to share this with you.
