By that I mean it is apparent that the dealers and collectors that go to coin shows must not be aware of the economy. They must not have heard we are in a recession. Things are bad. Don't they know this?
The reason I say this is I just got back from my usual 3rd Sunday of the Month Coin Show. Normally this show has from 25 to 30 dealers and a fairly impressive amount of collectors buying. Mostly in the past I've seen a lot of just lookers though.
Today's coins show was a real shocker. There were so many dealers that they had to use an extra room. At 9AM the place was a mob seen and they are supposed to open at 9AM. There were about double the amount of dealers and double the amount of customers. When I first pulled into the parking lot I thought something else must be going on this place but no, all coin people. Don't they know how bad things are? And prices were not being lowered as much as usual either. I felt like bringing in a newspaper so everyone could see how bad things are.
Now it's time to go look at all the stuff I purchased.

To continue today's experience. Usually at this show I know most of the dealers by appearance. Some I see so much I say Hello by name. In the second room none of the dealers looked familiar at all. Just inside that room a dealer had a box of Buffalo nickels on his table. Sign said 3 for $1 and all have dates. I asked him if those were all just plain, no S or D, or what? He said he just purchased them from someone a little while ago and had no idea of what was in the box and for what he paid, he just didn't care. I said might be something valuable. I picked through some of them and there was probably several hundred. I found several I thought would be well, well worth the price. Again, I said you know some of these may be worth a lot of money. And again he said no big thing take what you want. I did. About $5 worth. One was a little on the valuable side I thought.

Didn't photo the obverse but it is a 1937.
Think it's worth 3 for $1?

Am I seeing things, or is that a 3-legged buff? I want to be first in line to say I'll give you double your money for it.

Carl, that is great cherry picking! Congratulations! Now how many three legged Buffs do you have now? I wish Oklahoma had more shows.

With 6 Albums of those now and all almost complete, this is the 5th one of those 3 leggers. And it is the best one so it goes into set #1 for sure. With 3 shows a month things like this are bound to happen. I did warn that guy a few times there may be something in there that is valuable. I tried. The other 14 coins for that $5 were also in decent condition.

3 legged buff? I assume from die fill and enough of them to be a recognised variety? Looks to be in great condition to me and I am not very familiar with these coins at all.

and for what he paid, he just didn't care

I would have said "Oh, okay", got my 3 (including this one) and that would have been the transaction.
On to the next dealer that doesn't care

Carl
Nice cherrypick!

Congrats.

We should use it as a new thread to ask:
what's your favorite cherrypick!

Carl,

If I send you a dollar, will you check back with this guy to see if he has any more of those 3 legged buffs?
