Hello, new member here. I have been collecting coins for years, but not more seriously than hanging onto good ones (i.e. silver dimes/quarters, Susan Bs, Eisenhower dollars, any *old* coins I come across, etc.). I work in the restaurant industry managing three restaurants and I get to see a LOT of coins every day, but this poor fellow.I hate to think what he's been through! Clearly, someone has peeled off part of the cladding, but it looks like there was in fact an area where the cladding was not there - a hole, perhaps? I've done my best to highlight the area I'm talking about. This is how I found it in one of the drawers today, poor thing. Cool conversation piece at the very least, right? Thank you in advance for any and all comments and thoughts, and I look forward to learning from and with everyone!   |

Very interesting, looks like a swatch of cladding was pulled clean off. At a minimum, a fun curiosity to hang onto.

For sure! I've never seen anything like this before, and I've seen some messed up coins. I've found plenty of coins that look like they've been run over a few times, but none of them have lost their outer shells because of it.  Edited by JWBeez

This one was loose and it was peeled off of the coin. If it was left in tact, then it would have a higher value for this coin.  (Clamshell error) but removed, it pretty much lost most of a premium for this. So when you find an error coin, don't alter it. How do I know it was removed post strike?  Note the ghost area? That is what it look like under the loose cladding. If a full strike happened on a missing clad planchet, the strike would be strong like a normal coin. Worth a lot more with the loose cladding. |

Isn't there a diet chip on the chin area ifyou blow up the picture? Also there appears to something going on directly under then two under 2021 but can't tell whenni blew pickup because it got blurry?
Wondering everyone thoughts? I'll totally agree with Coop otherwise.

Is interesting. On the cooper side I can see left from AMERICA but it is the molecular cooper structure, There I see also the coin side was hit. So that hit made the cooper to exfoliate? and then peeled? another question I made it is: If peeled the clad border was suppose to be as the left bottom side, but this coin has the rest rise. 100% PMD but interesting. I will keep in my database (ch. errors simulation) for future coins come as this. Edited by silviosi

Nice find. Would have been nicer with the clamshell still attached. The only PMD is when someone tore off the layer. |

Well it was an error coin, but the removal of the clading reduced the value. So it is still an error coin, just not as valuable was it could have been. (If the cladding would have not been removed)
