I did some internet searching on this coin and couldn't fine anything about a variety of the mint mark position. I found these in circulation years ago but only lately noticed how different they are. One seems in the normal spot, but the other is touching the 5. Any input would be great

The MM was hand-punched into the die back then, so the position can vary considerably.

OK, thanks for the response and the info. I didn't know that :-)
That explains it for sure.

A coin could have some value if the MM is touching the date.

Agree with Coinfrog. The '53 S Wheat cent also displays interesting positioning of the mint mark.

The mints guidance back then was, below the date and to the right of the portrait. As long as it was there, it was good.
