Got this in change the other day, something seemed off when I felt it and low and behold, a silver. Ultra thin and light. Weight is 2.25 which is 10% off specs. Thickness is 1.1 and in comparision to another 64-D I have (1.2) is also 10% off.

Not circulation as details too strong. Could be struck on a blank but rim seems too pronounced. Any thoughts on what I'm dealing with? Just an ultra thin planchet? Anyone hear of planchet errors that went out pure silver, not a 90/10 alloy?

(yes, it looks like it was cleaned...and there is a chunk missing on reverse which seems to precise for PMD)

very harshly cleaned. I wonder if the cleaning and missing part could contribute to the light weight. It should weigh in at 2.5 grams, so it is not that far off.

Read one thread on same issue but not the one you linked, thx. I do wish XRF's were a bit cheaper than 30k used, or $500 a day to rent :-)

Dearborn - tolerance is .09 so this coin is 300% over tolerance and I just don't see the wear to support. Also 10% less thickness than a similar condition 64-D.

I guess my biggest question should be, why are tolerances in place if there are no checks and balances to ensure they are, hmmmm TOLERATED.

Just a thin planchet, it is a silver coin. Apologies for the out-of-focus edge, did it with my phone which is super stubborn with focusing.
