I'm not a big Barber collector but, I picked this one up because I liked the look of the cameo toning on the obverse. What grade might you give?

Knockout coin, but I don't think I can grade from these pics. Certainly not less than AU-58. Darkly toned surfaces like this obverse always worry me.

Was on the fence between AU-Unc on this one, it is difficult to discern between strike weakness and actual wear.
Leaning a bit more towards AU. Appears to have been dipped at one point and has retoned over a few years.
Toning hides luster sometimes, but I see no luster on the areas of the coin that have not toned over.

Still a much nicer Barber half than any I have in my Dansco!

I can't decide between AU58 and MS63. Lots of small nicks in obverse fields.

cant see much under all that toning. looks like its quite dull on the cheek. on the reverse what appears to be wear on the wings, tail feathers, upper legs and head could be from a weaker strike. I'm not familiar with the barbers to know if this is common or its actual wear so I'm with paralyse on this one

I'm on the fence. AU55 or MS63

I'll be the contrarian and say I am not a fan of the dark toning at all. To my eye it's just a blackened coin. Might as well have been in a fire.

To each their own.

fI you are not a 'big' Barber Half collector with this coin,
you should be. .
Although I am not a specialist US collector, I have 50 or so coins of all the more familiar silver and bronze denominations.
From my lesser understanding of US coins, the Barber Half saw extensive circulation, that makes those that have survived in MS+ grades relatively scarce.

Thus, when I see a Barber Half in the condition as pictured, it is something to get at least mildly excited about.

No wear on the high points, but there are quite a few light dings on the obverse.
MS-62.

To my eye, Barber designs always seem to grade better on the reverse. I figure that it is mostly due to many high points in the design, all working together to protect the field.
Reverse pic seems to support this theory.
