Not that it really matter at this point but maybe this will highlight the 1922. Scale and alignment off a bit but it maps perfectly.

No need to sell me on this being a 1922 - I'm sold already. are you going to try any restorative processes on this to see if the D is there or not?

I am, it's soaking for next 36 hrs. I actually just checked on it. 22 popped out, totally legible now. Still not seeing any indication of an MM but would not surprise me as crud is fairly thick there. I'll update in the next few days either way.

I recommend try soaking it in 2 tablespoons of Bar Keepers Friend powder cleanser in 2 cups of warm water for 10-15 mins. It'll safely remove most of the caked on stuff without damaging the metal.

Foxy - never had much luck with Oxalic in the past. I personally think it is too strong of an acid for coins. Have you had success? Safest way I've found is soaking in mineral oil and then short ultrasonic sequences. Takes time and patience but seems to work best for me.

Looks like a 1927 to me. I see a straight horizontal on the 4th number, not a curve.

The bottom of the diagonal of the 4th digit is inconsistent with a 7.

I agree with Zurie on the last digit.. I'm going to wait and see what the OP can come up with in a day or 2.

Well folks, it was fun while it lasted but alas, the D camp has won. 1922-D, subtle so I'll assume a weak D but a D nonetheless. Actually somewhat of a relief that a 1922 no D was not a lost cause.

Well at least we have an answer now. But your latest image is very dark and very hard to see anything.

Yeah. Now I can see the 4th number clearer. I can 100% see a 2, now. And, yes, I see a D.
