I think that $1,000+ is way too much for a post Mint contrived rarity.
Face value + 50% would be much more to my way of thinking.
At that price, perhaps I may buy an example at a coin show, if offered.
Even then, I would still more regard them as deliberate PMD curios, than as coins of any numismatic significance.

If the Mint had records of them as made in house, then it would be a completely different ball game.
An Australian example:
There is a case of the 1992 NCLT Olympic Aussie Al bronze dollar made in eight different varieties: -the rarest being the silver proof with continuous (not interrupted as normal), milling, of which 2,500 were struck.
They currently have a market value of less than AUD 100.
