Has anyone been noticing more wheat cents received in change. Yesterday I received 1928 and 1950 Wheat cent in change from Taco Bell. I have received others recently but they were from the 50's. I figure this is do to the economy and more people are using change from coin jars that have been lying around for a few years.

Yes, I have not been searching pennies for long, but I have heard the same from others. I also have run into more than usual lately.

Yea I think it's due to the economy. I am finding more and more silver pieces in my change as well as wheat pennies.

How is this for a coincidence. I go to the post office. I need to get a Money Order and mail to a gentleman for some Wheat cents. So I ask the postal engineer behind the counter if she had any of the new lincoln stamps. I said cool. So I got one fixed the apropriate postage to the envelope. I pay her for the M/O and Stamp. I get 1 cent in change. I looked 1944D :) she asks me what I was looking at on the coin. I told her that I just got back what I am sending the Money order for. A Wheat cent. she says oh I see. I thanked her and on my way I go. two days later I go and get a M/O for soem junk Silver, Same request, Lincoln Stamp. I get my change, 76 Cents. Yep you guessed it. 2 quarters and 1 Wheat cent. :) anouther 1944 D whats the chances? Different teller as well.

People are definately emptying their jars! I typically avg about 8 wheats per box, the last box I opened I got about 15-20 wheats, quite a few BU 1980's (which are very TOUGH to find) and some AU 1960's.

I had a Buffalo nickel returned by the vending machine in my high school 3 weeks ago. It was dateless so I soaked it in white vinegar for several days and 1917 became clear as day! I couldn't believe it! Usually I am amazed to find a Wheat cent older than 1920's. I definitely feel people are searching everywhere to find extra cash even from old collections. This works to our advantage!

Picked up a 1948-S wheat yesterday in change as well as a Buffalo nickel two weeks ago, and a 1951-D Jefferson that I needed last week. Despite those finds, I don't think I am seeing more "collectibles" in pocket change.

Actually this resurgence in older coins in change has little to do with the economy. It's the Coinstar machines that are doing it, and they've been around for a few years now. The economy woes have been obvious for less than a year.
Coinstar gives people a good reason to dump the coins they've had in their closet and were too lazy to roll them or didn't want to pay fees to their bank to accept them...which a lot do. Although the fee is nearly 9 cents on the dollar, a lot of people have found the convenience to be worth it, and tons of pocket change has come out of the closet and back into commerce.

I have noticed more older coins overall in my change since Coinstar & other coin changing machines came out, but the number of coins seems to have increased in the past six months, as well. I got a 1931-P Cent and a 1940-S Nickel in my change today. (if only the Cent was an "S" like the Nickel! )

I found a 1917 penny in a roll the other day. Not something that you find everyday in change. I also found 4 wheats in one roll. That is off the charts for roll hunting.
These times are upsetting everything. It's amazing what can be found.

No wheat cents yet, but I have seen an increase of 1960's and 1970's cents in my change.

My luckiest is a 1917 in vg, but I am pulling a lot of late 70's and early 80's in unc red out of change...almost a full roll of 84's but not one DDO in the bunch... a whole lot of nothing when I consider that I got no WAM's either
