What is the appeal of spending money to buy damaged coins?

sorry Raiden, that is no way to grow your collection. you want to buy the best (not damaged or junk silver) coins you can afford. you're better off buying a low grade nicely circulated coin rather than play the coin lottery.

Don't buy junk. That's not a collection it's an accumulation. For $35, you can get a nice ASE, proof Wheat cent or a common date V nickrl or bison nickel. Each a much nicer coin that a group of bent/ damaged coins.

Why anyone would pay good money for sight-unseen damaged coins is beyond my comprehenison.

Cannot imagine the logic behind this.

Maybe some pvc residue on the reverse & some damage to the obverse but not a terrible looking coin overall & could be a nice filler.
I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better?

Raiden nothing wrong with ebay coin voyeurism its how you learn and develop your tastes strategy etc and cut your teeth getting some hard knocks. I have a shoebox of Lincoln Cents and Buffalo nickles I paid around $1,000 for and its probably worth 200 bucks and that was how I trudged along my first year buying coins with no plan and devoid of a series...lost in the frenzy. Not saying anything negative to you but want to share how my ideas about coin collecting evolved over 7 years.
1. I picked a series Wheats and Buffalo's.
2. I learned all I could about those series and completed them.
3. I learned problem coins will always be problem coins and are a dead end.
4. I quit buying raw coins on ebay and saved my money for coin shows where I could see and hold the coin and barter with owner.
5. One good semi-key date with low pop in a slab at the highest grade I could afford will rarely ever lose value and let you down.
6. Through knowledge I stopped being a chump ( not calling you one - I'm the former chump).
7. Now I enjoy coin collecting so much more most of my coins are valued under 200 bucks but their the good ones and I would have no problems selling or trading them.
8. Only buy the best coin in the highest grade slabbed you can afford - the time will come when you can cherry pick raw coins at shows and coin shops.
Keep learning and remember pick one series and stick to it complete it and then dip your toes into another. Good luck and think with 35 bucks you could have bought a nice mid grade Buffalo nickel in a slab or a killer RB early Lincoln Cent.
Since I started with Wheats and Buffs I jumped 2 Walkers completed them and jumped to Indian cents, Mercs then stumbled into Barber quarters which lead me down that Barber dime and barber half rabbit hole and I ain't coming out of barber land ever! Thats my series and never tire of them, pick your series and again good luck.
