Hi everyone,
I've been reading about 1964 pennies without a mint mark that could potentially be worth much, much more than FV. Before running out to order my new corvette, I thought I'd show the pros one of my 2 1964s without a mint mark.
The other one is in worse shape than this one.
Can anyone clarify how to spot the valuable 1964 penny without a mint mark. Thanks so much!

I think you're thinking of the '64 SMS.... https://www.PCGS.com/coinfacts/coin...-sms-rd/3284 .... Yours is a common Philly.

You are not going to find a 1964 SMS coin in the wild - it just will not happen. Best to focus on other pursuits.

Yours (and all others like it) are a common date coin worth face value.

Thanks for your prompt replies! I just wonder how you're able to distinguish between the 2. I haven't seemed to be able to find clear markers.
Of course, to me, no mint mark means it could be the SMS, right?

Look for the double headed snake on the reverse!

Please stop the " without a mint mark" remarks. Cents without a mint mark were minted in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

Perhaps a 1/25 AMT plastic model kit of a Corvette.

@Jess the only 1964 SMS coins in existence were in the possession of the then-mint-dirrector, and were purchased from her estate when she died. All those coins are accounted for. There simply are no 1964 SMS coins in circulation to be found, and anything you read suggesting otherwise is just taking advantage of you for clicks. In general, SMS coins can be differentiated from business strikes by their satin finish and well-defined rims.

The so called 1964 sms coins were not released to the public in any way shape or form. They just aren't something that can be found in circulation, rolls or sets. All known presumably came from one source, former mint director Eva Adams' estate, slabbed, and none have been found since. Even if a coin has all the die markers that still doesn't make it an sms coin. Regular circulation coins very well may have been struck from the dies after the sms coins were struck. So, long story short, don't bother looking.
