Once in a blue moon these are offered on ebay. It is a Deak Intl, Australia 1 oz gold ingot.

What is the simplest way to verify these? With bullion coins, just a gram scale, micrometer and pinging the coin is enough.

Looks pretty cool, but I'd definitely want as a first step to use a Sigma Metalytics on it.

glenmorenee, those poured gold ingots are interesting, but as Spence implied you cannot be assured of their purity or authenticity. It could be a shell of gold around a tungsten core. For that money you would be better served by buying a Krugerrand or other 1 oz gold coin. These would be much easier to sell in the future.

I prefer coins and do not buy coins, ingots or gold on e-Bay. No return is a big red flag for me and not a long time seller. Caveat Emptor!

There seems to be whopping collector premiums on these vintage bars.

The premium on this Valcambi bar seems pretty reasonable at ~$150 for a whole 50 grams. The premiums I see for 1 oz buffaloes is $150-$175.

What am I not seeing here?
