Here is a recent purchase I bought at LCS, sold as a standard non-variety 1884 O. I thought I saw a possible VAM so I bought it and brought home to put under scope. Anyone agree that it's a VAM 10 ?    |

Does it have the gouge under obv star 1R?

Nice coin, and just looked at VAM-10 and looks like it to me, the date position seems to match, and for those wanting to know, it is on the hot 50 list of varieties.  |

On the reverse it has a gouge next to star. I saw this one when looking at VAM World. My coin is 1st, VamWorld photo is 2nd   |

Can some one elaborate a little more about this coin topic. For those of us may not know what you're talking about.
Also to the poster good looking out good eye from my understanding of this post. Take it you made out well that's great! It's nice to read on here.

@reno911 I always take a loupe with me to coin shops and they don't seem to mind if I ask them to take a couple of coins out of the case to look at. Not 20 mind you just a couple . :-) As to the VAM topic, I'm not the expert but the varieties do interest me. I'm sure there is plenty of information available both here and on the web. Just type Morgan VAM(s) into a search bar and you'll get plenty of reading. I have the book "Encyclopedia of Morgan and Peace dollars" by Van Allen and Mallis. Take the V and the A from Van Allen, add the M from Mallis, and you get VAM. Get it?  Have fun. |
