Hi everyone, I finally got my hands on a few rolls of black 2022 toonies! They are absolutely gorgeous! I'm looking everywhere online for known errors or varieties to look for, but to no avail. Can the experts give me a hand here? What should/could I look for? I'd love to be the one to discover something new as well, but will also settle for finding a known error or variety on my new 2022 toonies. Help please!!!!! Edited by Jess1234 04/21/2023 06:25 am

I think that you don't understand the significance of, and the difference between errors and varieties. When you have learned that, then you will know what to look for. But, you may get lucky anyways.

So I'll rephrase my question. Maybe then someone can help me? Are there any varieties or errors known for the 2022 black toonies? Thanks in advance!

In my knowledge, nothing has been found yet for the Black Toonie. Major varieties or errors are quite rare these days.

By the way, what are the pros doing with their black toonies? Hoarding, selling? Do you think they'll one day be worth much more in uncirculated condition? What's your expert opinion?

That's a good question Jess! There were over 5 million minted so that eliminates a "limited" number of coins. My thoughts are that they'll be kept with collectors with few being circulated. I could be wrong there but, I don't think that I am. Perhaps the best of the best will eventually show up as high grade with additional value or one's with errors/varieties. Enjoy them! As you know, I love them and what they represent!

I was going to purchase a roll when they first came out but the cost was a bit outrageous so I've been hunting through 200$ worth of toonies a weekend. I'm glad I didn't buy a roll as I've found plenty at face, which I will hold onto for now. I'll stop hunting for them once the quality of circulation strikes becomes poor.

I have found a couple examples with a small die chip protruding from the back of the polar bear, other than that there has not been any notable errors or varieties, yet.

@JohnWanyne007. Where on the bear's back did you find the die protruding? If you have any time, and feel like posting a picture, I'd love to see it first hand.

Using the photos of the OP on this topic, I focus on the raised dents on the edges caused by (I assume) the application of the printing on the coin edge. I have found rolls of this coin with this feature, and have wondered if it is "the norm". Is it possible this is. or should be, a error for this issue, or should it be accepted as "the norm?"
