what happened to this 1975 LMC mint mark

The little piece on the die that makes the inside of the "D" broke off creating the filled mintmark..very common.

The struck through 5 in the date looks more interesting, but still minor though. Happens in varying degrees during striking.

Wouldn't a Grease Filled Die cause that 5 to look like that also?

A Grease Filled Die is also known as Struck Through Grease...same thing, different words.

What you have is a filled mint mark and the little intentation to the right is the force of the punch and I think the five is from wear.
