... in a roll. As you can see, it's a mess and obviously damaged so I don't think it's worth anything. How can I clean it to where I can see details? Many thanks for any help.

I'd imagine the other side is in similar condition. I suspect it's well beyond restoration. Save it as a fun curiosity.

Try a bath in acetone. Being it is in such bad condition, you can use regular nail polish remover. If it was in collectable condition, you should only use 100% pure acetone, like you get from a hardware store.

Acetone won't help that coin; if you just want to "see what it looks like otherwise", try a soak in some 25% CLR solution.

I forget about CLR. I think I have a gallon around here somewhere. But still, this coin is not worthy. IMHO

Dig a hole 6 to 12 feet deep, drop in the cent, re-fill the hole. Let the next century archeologists try to figure out what went on here.
