I recently got back into the hobby. I'm collecting series 2017A $1s and $2s ( CU only). I collected district sets and blocks back in the 1990s. I traded with other collectors and that's what made it possible to collect complete block sets, traders in different parts of the country. I started about 5 months ago on my own and it's slow. It's obvious that less and less people use cash. Back in the 1990s I would request new straps at a few banks every Saturday morning. I didn't need to have an account just to break a hundred into a strap of $1s. New money was not that difficult to find, I usually got lucky at maybe 1 or 2 banks per week. Also. There were new blocks coming out regularly. As people use less cash it takes more patience. to collect. Just wondering if there are any other collectors working on a 2017A CU district set.?

I do CU district sets but I don't put lots of effort into it, which means I don't trade or buy, so my sets are far from complete

heh, well, like you say, it's getting tougher to find CU notes, but if I stumble upon one for a district I need, I'll set it aside

I put the pressure on my adult children to hunt for new notes for me. They act like I'm a pain in the neck but they do come through now and then. I also make an effort to go to the bank and ask when I'm in a different state while on vacation or visiting family. I have family on both coasts so it opens up getting notes from different districts.

Trading is about the only way to collect complete sets these days and I hope that I can find other like minded people.

Hey Vince I'm on the prowl for trading partners, not a lot to be found so far. I just got some FE block and looking forward to the FF block coming.

Datadragon Yes, I could buy a district set on ebay and I probably should instead of putting the time and effort required for this goal, but I get a thrill from trading and having new blocks coming in and making some new collector friends. I say I'm collecting a district set but I think I'm secretly focused on trying to work on a block set which is a bigger undertaking than I'd care to admit. I get excited when I get a CU strap at the bank and the other day to my surprise the new strap of $2s which I expected to be 2018A were actually 1976. Happy collecting!

Yes I agree that its the fun in finding them yourself rather than just buying in this case if possible, the thrill of just finding something in the wild you happened to come across with lots of time and effort. Also in some cases doing so with others such as making new friendships. Its just when you mentioned your kids involvement (who you mentioned were not gung ho to do so) and maybe needing traders from all over to collect these, I thought to mention the option to buy. This may be more for a block set since that will not be easy to 'find in the wild' especially all in uncirculated.
Many get that same thrill looking for fancy serial numbers, or even just finding all dates and mintmarks of coins like the modern quarter sets where in many cases they arent going to make you rich for those type of collections just fun putting it together. Not all collecting is about the later value but some like Vince gets uncirculated straps and so that is one way to potentially increase the returns on things you find. Others get the thrill of just finding and buying a high grade or prized currency find so everyone is a bit different in how they collect. -David
