Good evening everyone. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I picked up a few rolls today and came across this on my last roll of quarters. The coin has seen better days but I think it is a 1983 P "Spitting Eagle" Washington quarter. I matched it against the little pick on my chest sheet quarters mat and it looks like it. There are two die scratches( pls correct my terminology if incorrect) that are going from around eagle mouth down towards the left wing. One is sharper than the other but also further from the mouth. At this point I'm just second guessing myself and getting nowhere. As always I appreciate any and all feedback. Thank you

Yes those look like die scratches to me.

Does not look like the 'spitting eagle die clash' wrong position. I'll agree with die scratches though.

to the CCF!

Here's an image of a Washington quarter Die Clash Overlay. It shows the shape of the clash that's called a 'Spitting Eagle.' The second image is a detail of a multi-error Washington quarter that was broadstruck, clashed (spitting eagle) and horribly over polished, possibly trying to remove the clash marks. The line that forms the spit was caused by contact with Washington's throat on the obverse die. Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone. I was misunderstanding what actually causes the spitting eagle to be a spitting eagle. Appreciate the soul crushing news lol.

Onward I go. No matter how many times I think I have something and end up not, my enthusiasm for this does not quit. But I do hope I stop making these dumb mistakes sooner rather than later. Thanks again
