Although not siver, any collectability here? I am about VF details. . Worth a Franklin? Seems to be more desirable year from my research. Am I close? Trying to learn and this is the place.

In the condition its in you won't get anything for it. They need to look like this to be worth anything. If you have the 1912-1916 in Silver, it has value (about $20-$30)and the Aluminum/Bronze 1924/1926 ($50-$150) are worth more than the copper/nickel set. The Silver The aluminum/Bronze

Can add something. 1935 and 1938 were the most desirable years in these 50 centavos alpaca, as the alloy is called here. They used to be worth something even in a bad condition. But since the euro interest here dropped in the portuguese escudo coins. All but the most rare are easy to find and very hard to sell.
I saw retirees taking their little treasures to the coin dealers being told off with offers by the kilo of scrap metal. The dealers have big stocks already. Nice looking monarchy coins, those are hot. Much to my unhappiness as I still miss many.

Congratulations. Mine are much like yours, older dates worn. I am content with having one superb coin of each type, the rest can be worn. Now you can try the 1 escudo. Prices of the key dates of those also came down in the last few years. The 35 and the other 30s should be obtainable

I guess I need to make a note, if I am in Portugal at any point, to visit the coin dealers!
The designs of the modern Portuguese coinage are lovely and well-executed on the whole. I have a well-worn specimen of the aluminium-bronze 1 escudo which is a beautiful chocolate brown colour. Also I have bought a number of the big silver commemoratives.

Don't forget to get the last escudo in gold and the 1914 first escudo.

I can't afford gold. :) May be able to stretch the budget for the 1914 though.

Is is possible to do the full set to the last escudo. That gold escudo would be the most expensive of the coins. But in reality it looks just like the common last type. Go for the first escudo ;) It is more impressive, big coin and nice classical design.
The gold escudo is very small. If in the future you spend the 250 euros or so for a small portuguese coin, you would be better served looking for a pinto ;) Old 400 (480) reis coin. Tthat one really was a coin used in trade.

The only thing with the gold escudo is that it has very little premium, I paid 250 euros for mine and its bullion value is $260. 250 Euros is 271 dollars, so the premium is $11, compared to a $40 premium for American Gold Eagles (1/10 of an ounce)
