Quote: Please explain "questionable authenticity". Russian / Polish / Ukrainian fellows are notorious for selling fake Puerto Rican coins on ebay. The patina looked the same as those and the fat '1' in 1896 and flattened 'mushy' stars confirm it to be the case.

Interesting analysis. Any reputable links so we can compare my coin to the counterfeits?

I'm looking at the images on ebay and just don't see any obvious differences between what you say is real and what you say is fake. But I'm not an expert and would definitely appreciate some definitive answers. Would it help if I post some close-ups or different angles? Then you could compare my pics to known counterfeits? PS: not being argumentative here. I know all about counterfeits, but I just don't see the definitive signs of counterfeiting. "Mushy stars" can be normal wear and a "fat 1" can be a die variety? So let's do a side-by-side comparison. My coin vs known counterfeit?

I grabbed a close-up screenshot of the second coin linked above (PCGS VF20). Here's the date and stars:

I think it's possible that the differences are just die variations. And I could be wrong and this is an authentic example. Could you provide the weight and diameter of your coin? My other area of concern is the stripes in between the crown and the shield on the reverse. Could you also provide a couple of pictures taken outside of the plastic flip to reduce glare? The examples of counterfeits online have blurry photos - so it is tough to do a side-by-side comparison of details. Here's a real one:

Grrr! Coin is definitely underweight. Should be 10 grams even per NGC, but this one comes in at 8.68 grams on my trusty scale. Not even close even considering a bit of wear... Darn shame. I really liked this "coin." This will go in my bag of counterfeits, hidden away for eternity :(
