Is anyone here able to identify the coin in this frame? This is from the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I don't think its period, which is kind of a bummer.

I had to look it up...

This unique trinket was one of the nine pieces of eight, mostly known to be in possession of Captain Jack Sparrow. the coin was an ancient coin from Siam, one of the first two bits he ever pirated woven into moroccan beads. Jack got the Moroccan beads from a French lady of questionable reputation.

According to the "Inside the Brethren Court" featurette from the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End DVD Jack Sparrow's piece of eight is an ancient coin from Siam. However, the coin is actually a modern 5 pyas coin from Myanmar (Burma) https://pirates.fandom.com/wiki/Jac...ece_of_eight

The pirates of the carribean listing mentions Jack wears the traditional 17th century gentleman's clothes and also wears various coins including a modern Burma pya coin and a Panama balboa coin. The coin is a Burma 5 pyas coin made in the 1950's. https://www.brianrxm.com/comdir/cns...aribbean.htm

Yes exactly. The only thing I would add is that I believe the website referenced by @data is run by a member here (willieboyd2). You might message him.

Ironically enough, the linked page doesn't actually seem to include this coin!
...unless it's implied to be the "Panama balboa", which AFAICT it isn't.

As for ID, the moon and star motif suggests Pakistan, so I checked that, and I think it's a 1 rupee 1948-49 or 1/2 rupee 1948-51 (I can't tell which of those two without a clearer image and/or a good estimate of the coin's size).

Sorry for the late reply but I just stumbled upon it.
Contrary to popular belief, that is not the piece of eight.
The piece of eight is the small coin that is attached to the bandana, that coin is a '50s to '60s burmese 5 pya coin.
The Kuchi dangle is a 1900s to 1940s pashtoon Afghani coin. All of them have been converted into these trinkets of one kind or another. I have never seen an unconverted coin anywhere.
This one is in the "50" denomination. There's a red jewel set into the center of the coin on the other side.
