I have a 1935 Buffalo nickel and have identified it as likely a DDR and likely in VF to AU grade. Is this worth getting graded? Pls reference the attached pictures

*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

@ebw, first welcome to CCF. Second, I'll leave the grading to others, but about half of the horn is visible on the Buffalo, right? Lastly, here is a link to the four known DDRs. Which one do you think you have? The first one is dramatic, but the remainder are quite subtle and I can't tell from the photos what you've got there.

i cant speak to the DDR as the closeup photo is just to out of focus however the coin would grade imo VG details (cleaned)

at VG details the coin, regardless if was in fact, either of the varieties of DDR, would not warrant the cost of having it graded

I see offsets in Five Cents. DDR-001? Can't see anything in USA or EPU though.

First thank you all so very much for taking the time to reply!!! Yes, the pics were not great so I have taken and added a few more... I tried to take through and with my magnifiers. And if I am correct as one individual replying stated ...this coin even if a double die reverse would not be worth getting graded based on its current state, correct? Again thank you and more pics are attached in hopes it will help identify markings. Side notes on me - I am a nobody in this arena as I have inherited a collection of coins and stamps from my mother and uncle and so far I think the 2 people I have taken the sets to have them looked at and valued have either put items in bags and leave with them or just flat-out undervalued with no more than I glance at the collections to try purchase at a very low price. At least that is what other collectors have said they were doing so now here I am trying to figure out what each item is and I have 100s and it's appropriate value - it's fun but due to my lack of experience and understanding of these items it can be extremely frustrating at times too - well thank you again and I welcome any further insight. And do not be surprised if I am back with about a million more questions and pleas for help LOL

Ebw1969, welcome and enjoy.

I would suggest, as a first step, that you separate the coins by denomination (1 cent, five cent, dimes, etc); and then by type ( Lincoln Wheat cent, Lincoln Memorial cent, Buffalo nickel, Jefferson nickel, etc.). Next, organize by date and then Mint Mark. For Mint Mark you will need to find where it is for a given issue and period (eg. on Washington quarters, the Mint Mark was originally on the reverse and was changed to the obverse in 1968. In addition, the Philadelphia Mint mark originally was no mint mark, referred to as "Plain." Later as a P).

Hope this helps.

Enjoy!!!

with your new photos I would agree with CoinHunter27 on the DDR. nice find especially for someone not versed in collecting. however the coins grade and what appears to be a cleaning the value is not there to have it professionally graded

I'm just guessing here on value but if the coin grades VG details (cleaned) its probably a $35-40 tops. to have it graded at PCGS and authenticated for DDR is going to exceed the value of the coin.

when you bring in bags of coins or even sets to a dealer they are not going to sit there and assess every coin. they will probably looks quickly at the sets or individual coins for keys and semi-keys and all the rest they are not really going to grade but just give you overall value that they feel they can sell them and make a profit. to get max value can take a while to assess every coin and they are not going to do that.

if you have the time and learn what you have then separate them like Freespeech57 stated. put them in a spreadsheet. I would then go to http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/fmv.shtml and just get a feel for which ones have anything more than a nominal value. highlight those and then when you are done take those and post the better ones here to have them assessed.

there are folks on this site who probably would be interested in some if not all of your coins at probably a better price than a dealer would pay but they need to be inventoried first to know what you have
