The D provides a nice example of one of the characteristics MD.

Notice how thin the bottom of the D is. MD makes details thinner. If you add the background to the foreground part of the D you get a normal sized D. The same with the E that little thin line on the bottom will become as thick as the top part when the shadow is added to it.

This is in contrast to a Double Die where the letters would be thicker than normal.

The DDR for that year (Single squeezed die issue) could affect the central areas of the devices. (Not the out edges of the devices)
No listing on that year/mint for the Denver mint. But note the listings for the DDRs from Philly:

Note what areas to be affected on them. The listings are not on the areas you are looking at.

V.V. shows no listings at all that year on the dimes.

The single squeeze dies have the listings on other areas, not on the areas you are looking at.
