Hello Everyone ...so I was just going through my husband's jug of coins and came across this....took it to a coin dealer who said it's a mis-strike and he's never seen anything like it..he is going to look into it as well but said to hold this one close ....did he just blow smoke up our feet or could this be?!?!!

There is no way that happened at the mint. Not on a 1992 cent planchet. I'd have to say that there is a lot of smoke in the dealers shop. I can see the memorial through the reverse Indian head.
I have to ask, is the reverse head incuse? Because I think that the obverse Indian head was 'pressed in from the reverse side.

@chafemasterj surely knows the story of this fabrication.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Methinks it was likely made by running a normal penny through one of those arcade type coin pressing machines.

At least, it's a fun curiosity. Yeah, consider avoiding that dealer in the future.

It's a modern 'Repousse' or 'Pop-Out' coin. The first were patented in the early 1900s.

Here's a link to someone selling Lincoln/Indian cents for $5.00.

I sure hope the coin dealer was kidding!
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

looks like zinc is showing along the profile, to soon be followed by oxidation into dust
