I know this won't be popular among the old guard but at the same time I know many of you would want to follow along. I have 46 dateless Buffalo nickels I pulled out of my local coin stores Buffalo nickel bucket ($0.25 each). I only chose ones with a D or S mint mark. Going to attempt to pull out the date chemically to see what I get. Will post my results when I'm done. Final Results: 1913P Var 1 - 2 1913-D Var 1 - 1 1013-D Var 2 - 1 1914D - 1 1914S - 1 1915D - 1 1916P - 1 1916D - 10 1917D - 2 1917S - 1 1918P - 1 1918D - 6 1919D - 2 1919S - 2 1920P - 1 1920D - 1 1920Sish - 1 1921S - 1 1924D - 1 1925P - 1 1925D - 1 1926D - 1 1928S - 1 1934 D - 1 1916D/S (Acid ate through the mintmark, not sure what it is) - 1 Unknown/Date didn't restore - 3 Takeaway, definitely works. You don't have to overdo the acid. Solid toothpick dipped in a blob and spread on the date spot is enough. 10-30 seconds works for most nickels and the acid does not work well on the mint mark. I wouldn't advise using it to clean up mint marks at all. Edited by Hordfest 05/09/2023 12:10 pm

Wondering how you ended up "P" mint marks when you said you started out with only D & S mint marks? Anyhow, my Father gave me a bag of dateless that I nic a dated back in the mid 80's and mostly completed my folder with the harder to find dates. Thirty years later when I pulled this childhood collection out and looked at them closely, the dated had disappeared again.......................... I have since gotten rid of any acid dated. Better dates like 13S type 2 can turn a profit after ebay fees.
