Good morning everyone!! I have this 1936 Wheat penny that was in "supposedly" unsearched roll...does this look like doubling of Lincoln's jaw and chin? Or just really precise damage? Please tell me what you think. Thank you so much!!

Will need a better close up with better lighting on this. But I think it was just a well placed hit in the jaw.

I definitely agree this is a well placed hit to the bottom of the jaw.

Yes, I'm thinking a circulation hit. Not that it matters much, but it appears the coin was cleaned at some point in the past. Matters even less, but wondering what the reverse looks like?.

thanks for the extra image, much better (still a bit tiny but viewable.)

and with myself and others that followed that it is a hit in the chin and harsh cleaning.

Hey y'all, so the penny was cleaned...it came in a roll I recently purchased off of ebay along with 49 other washed coins. The roll I thought I was purchasing was supposed to be an unsearched 1909-1958 Wheat penny roll with a BU at one end and a proof at the other. When I first opened the roll I was so excited I thought they were all mints till I seen some 20's flat as a board but way too shiny...so anyway, I wasnt the one who did it. Thank you all for the feedback, I'm learning so much!! Oh and a special thanks for welcoming to your community

Just damage to this coin. If it were a doubled die, then other devices would be affected. Contact marks only affect the impact areas.

1984 DDO:

So on the 1984 DDO, the hub doubling altered other devices. On your coin coin contact altered the affected area. (Just another piece of the puzzle in knowing what Doubled dies will show)

Stay away from those "unsearched" rolls. No such thing. To entice people they put shinny coins on the ends, so right there you know that they had to "search" the coins to get the good coins on the end.
