Hello,
I am now back to CRH Canadian coins, especially 10 and 25 cents to find
silver. They don't come often, but my last find was a nice 1960 dime. I was happy, but surprised it does not "ping" and makes a dull sound while spinning on the table! It is not magnetic, OK. The weight is well at 2.33g (some other known silver dimes weigh a few milligrams more, some others a few milligrams less, probably due to wear), so weight test is OK. I also tested the sliding magnet, and it slides at the same speed as other known 80% silver dimes. The following photo will show rims of 3 dimes, and the suspect subject is in the middle. I also took photos of obverses and reverses side by side, but I can't get the file size down to their ridiculous 300 KB limit :-(.
As for the ping for other 2 dimes, they sound beautifully, admitting one of the 2 others pings longer than the other, but that 1960 doesn't at all...
Any idea of what's going on? Do you have similar coin(s)? Please share any thoughts or stories. Thanks.

Maybe try the tissue test? Judging a coin by the sound doesn't seem very reliable when the other specs are correct.

Nice clear pics of the obverse and reverse may help with your questions, to determine metal composition you might have to find someone with an XRF machine.
