It has been plated and made into jewelry. It is in a bezel on which the suspension loop has broken off.

Appears to be plated, yes. An accurate weight to two decimal places might tell us more. An end-on pic of the rim would be good to see as well.

Agree, plated. The extra weight is likely due to the bezel, not the plating.
