A very warm welcome Noel.

Goodaye Noel and a big welcome to the coin community.
The latest McDonalds (13th Edition) lists the values for your note as follows:
Fine $5 VF $10 EF $20 aUnc $38 Unc $60
As you can see it would depend on the condition. Could be Fine. This is also a retail value. If you wanted to sell you would get less.

I had a second hand dealer who also deals with coins and banknotes offer me $500 this morning. So I think that there is something a bit more special about this note to have him value it at those prices. But thanks for your reply and anyone with information on why he would offer me that much would be greatly appreciated. noel

Is it a "star note"? In other words, does the serial number start with a "Z" and end with an asterisk? Those are indeed rare, and easily worth what you've been offered.
If it doesn't, then we have no idea why he'd offer that much. Maybe the dealer is confused about star notes... [:p]

If it doesn't have the star I would be inclined to take the $500 and run.

If it does not have a star....let me know and I will send you a few of mine. You can get $500 each for mine as well.

If it's not a star note, (ZAH - ZAQ) with a star after the number, then there must be a significant error on either the obverse or reverse. Going from the values previously mentioned in this thread, and you say the dealer's offered you $500, that's the only possible explanation. Either that, or the signatories are coombs/randall.

Even coombs and randell for $500 it would want to be in good condition.
