1981-Jefferson-Nickel-With-An-Imprint-Of-

I found this interesting 1981 Jefferson nickel that looks like someone may have imprinted Jesus underneath the e pluribus unum on the back of the coin. I am sure it's not a misprint or error but I am curious to know if that drops or raises the price value. And I am also curious to know who or why someone would imprint it? And how would they do it? I'm new to coin collecting so I don't have a wide range of knowledge in this subject but I am very open to learn all I can! So any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

to the Forum, Klars! This is an example of a counterstamped coin. This type of mutilation has been inflicted on coins ever since they were invented. There's no numismatic premium attached to this.

@klar, first welcome to CCF. Second, while there is no added value to a maverick counterstamp like this, it is still a fun find.

Some collect them, some say it is damage. Anyone can make them with a punch and a hammer. Still it is cool to find them.

Thank you all for the input. Me and my nephew were debating if it was stamped or carved. I thought it looked too composed to be craved but what do I know maybe he's right, lol. But yes, it is definitely a great find and I shall add it to my collection.

to the CCF and Looks like it was stamped. Maybe not hard enough to leave bumps on the obverse. Some counterstamps have a premium to counterstamp collectors.
