What's the premium on a coin like this? I see 1881 EF45 in the $20-$25 range retail. The only Snow-8 I've found for sale is an F12 that he's asking (but not getting) $75 for. Not that I'm planning to sell this one - my first real cherrypick!

pathetic original photos made the coin appear to be recolored. huge difference in hand. looks like some verdigris or PVC. i'd acetone her and verdicare if you are inclined. I can see it at XF45 also

Just put her in an acetone bath. Let's see what a couple of hours will do. Considering Verdi-care.

Here is one of my Verdi-Care examples, to give you an idea.

It does a wonder job on the green stuff, not so much on dark staining though. The coin shown was in acetone first.

Just got it out of 7 hours in acetone. Slight improvement. Will take picks before trying Verdi-care.

Here are the acetone pictures. Looks like the verdigris is more visible on the obverse - no change that I can see on the reverse. I'm going to do an overnight Verdi-care soak on the obverse. I'm hopeful that the acetone dried out the verdigris some, which should help the Veri-care do its job. Will post pictures tomorrow night. Can somebody give me an idea of this coin's value?

I recently found one, just after your find to be exact. Bought it for 15 and flipped it for 37 bucks. All that occurred while your coin was trying to get to you.

Westcoin I had that same thing happen with arrowheads. Mine turned out alright though.

Well, I wish I could report some success with the Verdi-care, but after a 12-hour soak, the coin looks the same. Kind of scratching my head since I've had better luck with some coins and amazing results on an RPD 1864. No pictures because no point.

thats interesting. I would have thought it would have had at least some affect on the verdigris.

I decided to try again and give it a full 24 hours with Verdi-care. Will report. BTW, I'm now seeing where there was some cleaning around the date for some reason. Maybe they were trying to get rid of the black spot, but the entire area around the date shows cleaning. Doesn't particularly bother me for the price I paid for the coin.

OK, here's the result after a full 24 hours with Verdicare. Obverse only, since the reverse shows no verdigris. Still love the coin and happy to have gotten it, but I'm frankly baffled.
