Just picked this up - I really liked the look of this coin (as best as I could tell from seller's pics), and felt like I got it for low money. Looks better in hand. Curious as to opinions on grade, etc.

Right around VF35. Those dies were worn out.

The area above star #2 (and above D in UNITED on the reverse) is interesting. Not sure if this is a die defect or PMD.

The gouge between stars #11-12 is definitely distracting, though it doesn't look super deep, and there's also a pair of scratches at the O in ONE (one below left and one above horizontal) but again, relatively shallow and probably old.

I don't THINK it's been cleaned, but it's hard to tell from these photos. Coinfrog usually has a pretty good eye for coins, though.

I think has higher VF sharpness but the color looks off. Looks like its trying to retone after a cleaning or dip?

Blastenpene4, are these your photos are sellers?

the sharpness of the photos is there. the lighting is not. it just washes out the surfaces to determine originality. the second obv photo shows a coin that was lightly cleaned.

several decent hits on the obv. the scratch on the reverse will detail for me. its in a prominent area and too large.

Yeah, I'm still fighting to try to get lighting right. That's why I usually post 3 pictures of each side. First picture of the reverse makes that scratch look huge - it really isn't. I'll try again. These taken outside in the shade. Better?

The bit over the D is damage. Color's off.
I'd call it VF35 details.

Could make 40. Obverse hits detract slightly from eye appeal.

Figured I had nothing much to lose so I gave the obverse a 10-hour soak in Verdi-Care. Better, worse or indifferent? Soaking the reverse now. BTW, dumb question - what size coin 2x2 do these large cents fit in? Quarter looks too small and half looks too big.

I store mine in 2x2 Kraft manila envelopes, so I don't know about the pre-made cardboard holder sizes. The ones for US small dollar coins (Sac/SBA) might work but I'd have to check.

Yes the small sized dollar 2x2's are 28mm and these large cents are 28.5mm. They work well even with the coin .5 mm oversized. The other option is the half dollar size 2x2's at 30.5MM but the coin can be loose and rotate in these.

Here is a link for an ebay auction for 100 29mm size 2x2's. they will work for all the large cents. 332046068058
