@wide, any chance of you adding more pics with the coin taken out of the 2x2? In order to get a really good look at the surface details, it is better to have the coin not sealed under a thin layer of plastic. Thx.

I'm not seeing any wear so it would appear to have MS sharpness but the lack of luster bothers me. Still a very nice coin and nice example for a type set or 7070 album. Congrats!

I don't think it's MS condition, but was thinking more like AU-50 to 55. Even at EF-40, I got it cheap at $153.

After looking at this more closely, it does appear to have some minor wear on the high points. On the obverse that would be on the hair just below the "BER" of liberty and the cheek area from behind the nose to the chin. On the reverse the high points are the tops of both wings. I don't see a problem with mid to high AU. Absolutely better than XF!

I believe the OP's grade opinion, on which the purchase was based, is accurate. AU-53

Pretty coin. But I agree that it's hard to see in the 2x2.

Actually, the sellers pictures were kind of blurry, so I based my bidding on an EF-40, and got it a good bit below Red Book (and close to Blue Book) for a 40. When I received it today, I was pleasantly surprised with the condition.

I honestly believe that bad seller pictures can work to a buyers advantage sometimes.

Pics too dark to see surface details clearly.

AU-details (cleaned). Better photos might change my opinion on the cleaning.

the lighting is just not good enough to assess the surfaces properly.
these are known for slightly weak strikes. looking at the cheek and breast I cant see anything that says the coin was circulated. I think its high AU maybe even low MS
i'd really like to see this one outside the holder for two reasons
1. determine if the original surfaces are intact 2. differentiate between strike and wear
MisterT you have some good eyes if you can see wear from the nose to the chin using these photos. the tops of the wings are almost always like this due to the die and strike

@Panzaldi, I wasn't suggesting that I am seeing wear from the nose to the chin. I was simply pointing out that this is one of the high points of the design on the obverse as well as the hair under Liberty. The areas of flatness that I do see however are the hair below "LIB" on the obverse (which may be strike weakness) and the slightest rub on the upper wings on the reverse. No, my eyes are not good enough to observe any flatness on the cheek.
