Hi All! I recently came across what I believe to be a 1913 Type one DDR (doubling of E Pluribus) and I was looking that variety up on PCGS and NGC and noticed they both list them but NGC says FS-802 and PCGS says FS 1802...? It appears they are the same. My Cherry pickers (an older version) doesn't have this variety listed at all. So which one is correct? or are there two distinct varieties that just look exactly the same?

They are both the same variety, Ive always known it as FS-1802. How about some images of the coin in question?

yep, Ty would be correct here, But what I don't know is who assigned both designations.

Also, can we see your buff?

I guess I don't understand how they can both (NGC and PCGS ) have the same variety listed as two different FS numbers.....The numbers are Fivaz-Stanton numbers assigned by them , not PCGS or NGC so one of them has to be wrong, they can't both be right.....Does anyone have the actual cherry pickers book that has this listing in it? if so, what does it list it as? My inclination is to think NGC has it wrong, they have had a lot wrong lately....

Hi, I realize I'm about 2 years late to this conversation but I just ran across this issue myself. I have the 6th edition of the Cherrypickers and this is what I believe happened:

Cherrypickers listed the variety as a Type 2 Nickel. It is not. But the naming convention for type 2 coins dictates that an extra digit be added to the FS number. i.e. a Type 1 DDR should be FS-802 but there could also be a type 2 DDR and it would be FS-1802. So Cherrypickers lists it as 1913 5C Type 2 DDR FS-1802.

Cherrypickers made the error, and NGC corrected the naming convention so that it is appropriately listed as FS-802. PCGS just calls it a 1913 5C Type 1 DDR FS-1802. Which by FS naming conventions, should not exist.

I emailed cherrypickers just now and will see what they say.
