This is a ground find coin that was soaked in distilled water and then Acetone, nothing else has been done on it yet. The goldish yellow striation/coloration was evident when unearthed.

I don't think it is a Woody as it lacks directional consistency however the darker covered areas (red/brown on face) are raised so iit is unknown what lies under.

Any thoughts? If it was painted at some point I'd imagine Acetone would have lifted. Sort of stumped on this one. Am I simply looking at some crazy ED?

Maybe you could get a better look at physical features vs. discoloration by gently pressing it into some Play Doh or silly putty. I wouldn't recommend that for a valuable coin, but you did find this one on the ground.

looks almost like a woody, but it is wearing off the high points, which I don't think is possible, possible corrosion while it resided in the ground.

Worthless coin so I took a toothpick to it under scope, the red face crust is not budging so I'll go with crazy ED too. At least for now, mineral oil soak for a few days and we'll see what happens with the red/brown build-up. If nothing else, more experience gained when dealing with the ground finds.

Cool find! It's nothing more than a woody that's been in the ground, and yes, it does have directional consistency. It does have a lot of other things going on, but it's because it was in the ground.
