Good Evening,

I came across this 2017 P Penny that appears to be missing the rim of the coin. This will probably show how new I am to collecting coins but I'm wondering if this is a minting error or an error at all? Or is this just a damaged coin?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

It is zinc rot. Inner core of 1982 to present have zinc core with copper coating, this coin has had contact with something that has made the coating wear off. zinc will begin to rot to dust.

Most likely zinc rot, but these pictures are not sharp enough for a solid verdict.

Well the edges have a copper plating on them. just the top of the rims are showing the zinc core. I think that somebody just took off the copper plating on the rims.
