I bought this coin off of this guy who had a bunch of coins for sale and my instant opinion was he inherited these coins and had no interest in them and wanted to make a quick buck. I paid $10 for it. The box is tore up and there's no proof of authenticity. My question is, is there a way to tell if it's a real ASE or if it's one of the many fakes I've read about online. I'm uploading pictures. Also if it is authentic how much is it truly worth?

For $10 I'd say most certainly a fake, but.... how much does it weigh?

inherited or stole and trying to make a quick buck. Probably need a more accurate weight without the capsule, like to the 0.001 grams

Do not take the coin out of the capsule to weigh it.

This variety of ASE books at $350 +/- in PR68 grade. If you're lucky and gets a PR70, it goes up to $650. Touch the surface once, allow a minor scratch, smudge or swipe mark, you'll never get the PR70 grade and the value will go down dramatically.

If you really want to know the weight, find a similar capsule, weigh that and substract from the weight shown.

A genuine ASE should weigh 31.103 grams.

Frankly, the box and box cover are probably harder to fake than the ASE, so their presence and appearance should count for something.

correct, don't touch that coin, from the images provided, albeit not the best to examine it with, it appears to be ok.

Don't take it out. I have same coin, in capsule, weighs 40.05 so weight is good. The image on what you call the box, is actually the image from the sleeve.

$10 is an excellent deal!

As suspected, they probably just want to liquidate fast.

Thank you everyone for the great advice. I'm going to purchase a membership with one of the main grading companies and submit this one in for grading.. let's hope it gets the 70!! I'm excited to have this one in my collection.

I have 2 of these V75 ASE's, I graded both of them one got a 69 and the other got the coveted 70. So good luck with your grading on this one.

Please report back when you get the results.
