Just found a few of these. Very tough to see with a loupe, and somewhat interesting. Only three letters are affected, the W, T and R according to Variety Vista, although it really looks like a bit on the U as well. Somehow skipped right past the E in WE.
Fantastic find! sure is a spot on match with VV 012, W, T and R. The placement of the Mint mark matches perfectly as well. Could this be a "Tilted Hub Doubling" with some devices Doubled, while others not effected ? Could this be the result of an accidental meeting of the hub and die after completion of the hubbing process ? Very nice Stage A coin for sure.
Given how it affects just a couple devices near each other, I would call it a Class VIII tilted die. However, Dr. Wiles has it listed as a Class V CCW rotational from K-7.
Very good info, I have the a 1964 DDO-022, 22-O-VIII. I find the Tilted Hub Doubling a fascinating class of Doubled Die`s When I get a chance I will post it here for all to see.
