Hi folks, I am seeing doubling and some tripling on this new Quarter. Any thoughts? I appreciate your help, thank you.

I am thinking that it might be a lighting issue from your camera.

Hmm, I could see the doubling with my eyes ,that's why I put it under the microscope , I can only pass along photos using snapshot. I will keep this one , and thanks for the feedback.

You need to filter your light source. I think mainly a light issue, light induced doubling. I also might be seeing MD, high bounce MD and maybe DDD but the glare is making it difficult.

DDD could explain your apparent doubling. this coin exhibits 'doubling in multiple directions - all trending towards the rim, which in indicative of DDD.

It might be some kind of Mechanical Doubling. As usual on these newer coins, I question any diagnosis of push doubling because the metal doesn't seem to come from the devices. I wish we could explain what Coop has called die movement doubling, and Wexler has called abrasion doubling.

At least this one is all in a single direction. That nose metal looks unusual though.

Ok, thanks for responding. As always, I learn from you all and I appreciate any feedback. I just need a more adjustable microscope, I guess. I still hope to wow you with a great find someday...

I'm not sure how you concluded that.

On the obverse: IGWT, George, date all show a very clear shift of devices left, ghost to the right.

On the reverse: EPU and plane ghosting are mostly up. Bessie's nose is ghosting right. Although the nose is almost certainly a push double, because she has a much more rounded nose and the metal ridge is clearly crushed out of the nose tip.

The incuse lettering of America, I don't even know how we would diagnose doubling on that.

The pitting across the devices could be die wear, but it could also be circulation pits. We would need to see non-doubled areas of the coin to ascertain that.
