Hi again,
I have found a lot of 1973 pennies in my fathers coin collection. Most of them look brand new but I have zero experience. I am posting an example maybe someone can guide me as to whether or not these are worth hanging on to.
Thanks!
Jamie

Welcome, Now I am only speaking from my side of things, there are a lot of coin collectors "including me" that have saved the left over coins from the rolls that they came from during the hunt for Varieties or such.
I have boxes of tubes of such years as well as before and after that date, and are in UNC to BU condition with I`m sure some MS ones, but they minted so many they are considered common,
1973 D mintage 3,728,245,000.
now with that said they do have a value above face value but to get the most they would have to be graded and there just isn't
enough value in them to justify the cost of slabbing.
Now when it comes to sentimental value is were I hold the line, and value means nothing at that time just protection an preservation.
That is a sweet looking coin and it`s that eye appeal that has kept me from turning in my old beauties.
I hope this helps in even a small way with that you now own.

73D is so common that they need to grade MS66+ or better to have really any value.

to get a grade above 65 the coin really can only have some very very minor marks/scuffing. the fields cannot have any discoloration. even though your photos are not that good you can still see the discoloration along the rim and field to the left of the profile. I also see this in the field in front of the chin.

there is too much glare on the reverse to see some of the areas but the obv would exclude it from a 66 grade.

to answer your question you can probably hold onto the coin for 50 yrs and chances it will have much value is pretty much nil. now that you know better what it takes to get a 67 or better for the most part go through the others and post any you see that you think are flawless.

Looks to be standard mint state coins. In the 70's the majority of MS coins are MS-60 to 65. The trick is finding the 66 and higher coins.
