I have both the 2023 Whitman red and blue books, and use both when assessing coins for buying. In these 2023 issues, a lot of times things seem upside-down. Particularly with silver dollars. On a lot of them, the blue book is showing prices higher than the Red Book. What the Sam Hill is going on?

Not a good idea. Check ebay sold values and http://m.numismedia.com/rarecoinprices.htm
With high dollar coins use auction house sold values.

The Red hand does not what the Blue hand is doing.

I do that as well. I use the "Value View" in the PCGS app. It shows prices realized on ebay as well as the auction houses for a specific grade.

There was an error in the 1943 steel cent value in the 2022 guide. I havent heard elsewhere about higher wholesale (blue) than retail (red) pricing but that is Interesting. I guess as John1 suggested you will have to use numista, ebay sold listings, PCGS/ngc pricing for graded coins, and auction results to get a general idea if the pricing is similar. Greysheet and Numista both offer more comprehensive pricing for dealers.

the Blue Book lists wholesale prices many coin dealers will pay for collector coins; the Red Book lists retail prices that a collector can expect to pay for the same coins so I guess there was/is high demand for those coins at the time of publication.
