It looks like a previously Encased Coin.

In a perfect world, we'd have a couple end-on pics of the rim. A weight would be useful as well. And yes, I understand 'we' don't have the coin in-hand.

I don't recall previously seeing an Encased Cent with the damage so far offset. Maybe this cent was used to level a table at a restaurant by placement under the circular leg end? Hard to know for sure other than this is mechanical damage.

Don't think that this is a case of embezzlement here, The denticles on the left side look to be from a slightly larger copper coin. Note how the Lincoln side has a normal rim but then changes over to the denticles.

As stated above with these pics can't tell if it's out around. With a Encased Coin the damage should be all the way around. I'm thinking PMD, but I don't know what. Dearborn, embezzled coin.

I think Encased Cent as well. Somehow the press used to seal the coin into the encasement didn't line up properly with the coin on the obverse. The lack of any damage on the right could be attributed to the incorrect alignment .

It would be kind of like your Mickey Mouse waffle iron had a broken hinge. If it shifted to the right then Mickey would have a flat area on the left with any casting marks from the edge the iron... maybe 'Trade Mark by Disney' would appear on your waffles.

Okay... why am I hungry now?

I don't think it's an Encased Cent.

To me it looks like someone fed it into a penny press machine, and then backed it out for some reason. If you look closely, there is damage on the reverse rim, and the cent isn't perfectly circular anymore. It's starting to be a little egg shaped on the left side due to stretching.

That's my one cent, stretched into Two Cents! =P
