Not seeing any doubling at all.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

For an example of what appears to be doubling on this coin, see the image of L in LIBERTY with arrows added below. The arrow at the top of the L points to notching. At the the bottom bar, another arrow points out a split serif/notching on the upward end curve of the L. There is additional notching on most of the rest of the letters in LIBERTY, as well as on the 1s in 1776 and 1976. Are these not indicative of a doubled die?

Well, it is possible, but can you get us another image of that 'L' with different lighting angles?

Thanks to Dearborn, E&V and Boguss for your responses. Dearborn, per your suggestion, here are two additional images of the doubling of L in LIBERTY. This is a photo taken of the coin from an upside down angle. This is a photo of taken of the coin from a side angle. Opinion Dearborn and others? Sure looks like a possible doubled die to me.

Now with the new addition pictures, it might be a DDO.

Thanks for the response, E&V. This may be a newly discovered DDO--on a Kennedy half that's 47 years old!

Great news! Just received confirmation from a Coneca examination that this 1976-D Kennedy half is a DDO. There are no matches on VV or Wexler, so it is apparently new. Any suggestions as to how to proceed with an attribution?

Thanks E&V and Brandmeister. I am excited! After the many days and hours of hunting and looking at coins, it's great to find a new variety.

Not seeing a DDO. You should send it to James Wiles at Variety Vista for an attribution.
