I bought a new scale and after calibrating it I started weighing sometimes from the 1970s and just felt "off". They are mostly late seventies and consistently weigh 2.9-3.2 grams. Nothing under the scope appears unusual just their weight. There are 4- 1703D, 2-1975 nmm, 2-1977D, 2-1978D, 1-1978nmm & 1-1979D.
I weighed well over 100 different dimes some silver, some not that weighed what they were supposed to. Anyone have any answers as to why they would weigh so much?

Sounds like the scale is off. Did you try recalibrating the scale with calibration weights?

I would love to see some pictures of these dimes - especially the 1703 D dime..

Yes, that 1703 D. Imagine what the Denver mint looked like then.

MRC4U,
no mint mark means it was minted in Philly, eg,1975-P.

Errers and Varietys.-My 1st thought also with a new scale. I recalibrated twice and kept getting the same weights.
Dearborn, ijn1944 - LOL sorry typo, should read 4-1973D

Normal weight should be 2.5g - do you have any other dimes that weigh normal on that scale?
Are the 'heavy dimes' thicker than ones that weigh normal?
