Also can you post up an image of the edge of that area too? In addition - the ones you posted are a bit dark - can you use better lighting, but not so much it creates glare? Collecting since 1972. The colors and pattern look like someone used a lighter to heat the copper to the point that it began to discolor. This could have caused the hourglass shape of colors on the surface. The heat could also have caused the copper plating to lift away from the zinc core leaving the plating anomaly. I think it's just Post Mint Damage or PMD.
